Disney Photo Essay
What is the subject for your photo essay and where did you take your photographs? (1)
- the subject for this photo essay was a journey to joy and they were almost all taken at Walt Disney World in Florida.
Why did you select this place? Why is it significant or important to you? (1)
- i selected this place because Disney has a very strong impact on my life. when im in a bad mood or if im feeling overwhelmed by the issues of the world i listen to disney music and watch the films. Disney as a whole has made my life so much more happier, so this place is extremely important to me.
What concept are you trying to portray about this topic? (1)
- the concept i am trying to portray is a journey to pure joy, which in my opinion, is in Disney World.
Visually, how did your images capture the narrative or “story” of your essay? (1)
- All of my images show the story of a traveler taking a journey to pure joy and happiness.
Discuss: the order and arrangement of your photos and how you visually unified the series of photos? (2)
- The first photo was taken as we started taking our descent into Orlando, taken inside of the airplane. The second image was taken at our first stop Hollywood Studios, i decided to put this second because when you open the photo up completely you can see an airplane at the very top of the photo. The third photo was also taken at Hollywood Studios by the side of the Tower of Terror. This is related to the second photo because of the use of palm trees. Underneath the Fantasmic billboard you can see it is resting on a type of stone wall, this also relates to the fourth photo because of its use of stone around the whole castle, also the slight sunset connects them as well. The next photo is also in front of the castle but this time there is an actual size statue of the real Walt Disney and his best creation Mickey. This photo shows a fantasy aspect of that time period, as well as the next photo where it displays a fantasy type of carnival which is located right at the backside of the castle. This image shows a large sun at the back of the tent showing a nice lens flare. The next image also uses the lens flare as it shows directly through multi colored mickey balloons. Its bright colors remind me of the next photo which is taken outside of the Epcot ball where there are similar colored flowers in front. The ball is also used in the next two photos, one with me trying to pinch it with an extreme focus on my hands, and the next in the dark on the horizon by the Japan exhibit. I took that last image at an angle and i did so also with the next photo in front of Animal Kingdom and the next photo in front of the Pixar logo in Hollywood Studios. The last image wraps the whole essay up as it is me descending into Providence after our trip had ended.
Which photo is the strongest in the series? Describe the composition (2)
- i believe my strongest photo in this series is my photo of the mickey balloons with the lens flare. i think it is strong because of my use of light against the lens and not behind it and my ability to control the amount of light that came from the sun enough so that the people are in a silhouette but they aren't completely overcome by the sun light. i think my technique and color tools were especially strong in this photo.
