TERM 3
Studio Lights
Written Reflection
Select one studio portrait and answer: top middle
Lighting:
Describe the lighting in the shot- The lighting i used was natural light and is bright and soft.
Where is the light coming from?- the left slightly as it came from the window in the foyer.
How is it falling on the models face/head/body- softly as it lights up the entirety of her face.
Describe the shadows that are created in the photo.- very few shadows from the bridge of her nose to the right
Position of the Model:
How is the model situated?- she is standing looking straight into the camera behind a flower.
Is the photo a head shot, or did you include more of the torso?- it is a closeup head shot.
Is the model facing the camera, looking to the side, tilting their head- facing the camera directly behind a flower.
Position of the Camera/Composition:
Did you take a horizontal or vertical photo?- horizontal
What was your point of view?Did you shoot from above, below, from the side or on an angle?- i shot this picture directly in front of the model.
How close or far were you from the model? i was about 4 feet away from the model.
Impact/Expression:
What does the lighting, position of model and expression on face communicate?- it highlights the use of nature and the color of the photo in general. the flower pops out her eye and looks mysterious as she looks behind a flower directly at us.
What aspect of the model’s personality is being revealed in the portrait? (serious, humorous, sad, anxious…)- i would say she is expressing curiosity and/or innocence.
Compare and contrast:
Compare the photo to another with a different impact/viewer response.- the one with the white flower at the end has a completely different feeling to it. the harsher lighting from the front of the model shows the more dramatic side of her and kind of makes it seem way more scary like. sort of like it would be on the cover of a scary movie. completly different from the brightness and innocence of the first flower picture from the top middle. even though they used the same method of looking directly at the camera from behind a flower, the different lighting and set up styles show the difference in the mood and ideas of the picture.
How did you use different lighting, positioning or expression to communicate a different feeling?- for example, a brighter lighting with a subtle positioning and expression could show innocence and happiness. or on the other hand if you have darker harsher styles of lighting positioning and expressions it can be shown as scarier or mysterious.
